Dennis & Donna Oldorf Mercy Hospice House in Cedar Rapids following an extended
illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the
Presbyterian Church in Shellsburg with Rev. Charles Daugherty officiating.
Interment will be held at the Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, Iowa. Friends
may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Mercy Hospice
House and the American Cancer Society.
Glen, known as "Bob" to his family and friends, was born September 24, 1929 near
Winthrop to Lester and Gladys (Irwin) Hekel and graduated from the Quasqueton
High School in 1947. In 1946 he attended the American Legion Boys State. During
the Korean Conflict he served his nation in the US Army Corp of Engineers.
On January 7, 1955 he married Maxine McVey at the Bible Church in Walker. Bob
farmed prior to being employed as a Ham Boner at Farmstead and the former Wilson
Co prior to his retirement in 1991. Since that time he and his wife have spent
their summers in Minnesota. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Bob also enjoyed
woodworking and fishing. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Shellsburg; his daughter, Marlene (Robin)
Lucas of Nevis, MN; his sons, Jeffrey (Tracy) Hekel of Rowley, and Gary (Jean)
Hekel of Shellsburg; his daughter-in-law, Karen Hekel of Newport, TN; fourteen
grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Janice Fruendt of
Kansas City, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Jim Hekel; his sisters, Donna
Buchanan and Jean Ott; and his brother, Richard Dean Hekel.
A portion of the funeral service will be dedicated to the memory of Bob and
Maxine's son, Jim, who died May 25, 2007
