Susanna was the first wife of Barnabas Kenyon. Although the cause of her death is unknown, she may have died from complications of giving birth to her sixth child, Susanna who was born two weeks before her death.

She migrated with her husband, Barnabas, from Rhode Island to New York State, not long after the American Revolution in which he served in Rhode Island as an American Patriot in Noyes' Regiment. They settled in Caughnawaga, Montgomery, New York, by 1790.

She and Barnabas had six children, listed below. She is mentioned in an account in a biography written about her grandson Loren Cornwell, in History of Crawford County, Iowa: Record of Settlement Volume II, pages 13 and 14, wherein he states that his maternal grandfather was Barnabas Kenyon, born Rhode Island who married Miss Clark.

She was the daughter of John Clarke, who himself was born in Richmond, Rhode Island, and died in Amsterdam, New York in 1836. After the war, he moved his family to Broadalbin, New York. From, The "Clarke Families of Rhode Island," 1902, by George Morrison, Jr., pages 63-64.

Susanna was listed as the daughter of John Clarke. All his children were born in Richmond, Rhode Island.

In the footnotes it mentions, "When John Clarke died in 1836, he left descendants him surviving as follows: Son, Gardiner, 6 children, 24 grandchildren; son Asa 7 children, 35 grandchildren; son Jesse, 10 children, 36 grandchildren; son John 10 children, 27 grandchildren; son Nathaniel, 9 children, a grandchild; daughter Sarah, 9 children, 33 grandchildren; daughter Susanna, 6 children, 29 grandchildren; son Paris, 3 children; son Russel, 1 child."

Two of her siblings, Jesse and John, were mentioned as dying in Lorraine, Jefferson County, New York. Jesse was living along the property line of her son Barnabas Kenyon, in Lorraine.

Children of Susanna and Barnabas Kenyon:

  1. Barnabas Kenyon (1786-1844) m Betsy Parkhurst
  2. Randall Kenyon (1788 - 1882) m Elizabeth Hill
  3. Samuel Kenyon (1790-1878) m 1) Susan Cross 2) Hannah (maiden name unknown) 3) Freedom Gilman
  4. Elizabeth Kenyon (1794 - 1878) m Timothy Cornwell
  5. Sarah (Sally) Kenyon (1798-1884) m Oren Howard
  6. Susanna Kenyon (1801- 1882) m 1) Wanton Kenyon 2) Michael Lee.

Compiling the number of surviving grandchildren (29) from Susanna, daughter of John Clarke who died in 1836, referred to above:

  • Barnabas & Betsy = 8 surviving children
  • Randall & Elizabeth = 7 surviving children
  • Samuel & Susan & Hannah= 8 surviving children
  • Elizabeth & Timothy = 1 surviving child
  • Sarah and Oren = 5 surviving children
  • Susanna & Wanton = 0 surviving

Total surviving grandchildren as of 1836 = 29

This provides evidence that Susanna Clark was the daughter of John Clark, as the number of children and the number of surviving grandchildren is a match.

Susanna was buried in the Kenyon Family Plot, Broadalbin, New York.
