Owensboro minister dies at 87
The Rev. James P. Johnson, a minister in Owensboro area for 60 years, died Thursday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital.
Johnson, who lived at 1310 Venable Ave.,was 87.
The Muhlenburg County Native retired in 1980. He had been pastor of the Oneness Open Door Holiness Church at 1112 Werner Ave. since 1960.
Before coming to Owensboro, Johnson served pastorates in Jewell City and Hawesville in Kentucky and Rockport, Ind., in addition to working as an evangelist in the region.

He was born in Muhlenburg County and was a retired Minister.
Survivors include his wife Mable Johnson; three sons, Don and Wilbur Johnson, both of Owensboro.

Johnson of Bowling Green; two daughters, Shirley Jennings of Newport, Mich.,and Gloria Bowles of Pleasent Ridge; 10 grandchildren;two brothers Morton Johnson of Drakesboro and Albert Johnson of Russelville; and two sisters, Mrs Margaret Shelton of Nashville, Tenn., and Carrie Comstock of Alabama.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Peoples Baptist Church. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Owensboro. Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.
