DAVID POWELL GARRETT departed this earth on Monday, October 13, as a result of a helicopter crash while on assignment for Houston TV Station KTRK, Channel 13. Dave was a talented and respected reporter and photographer in Houston for over 10 years. His distinctive voice was recognized by many and he will be dearly missed. Dave was born October 2, 1972, in Crystal Springs, MS and relocated to Houston with his family in 1976. He attended schools in Fort Bend ISD and was currently taking college courses to complete his degree. Dave was a creative and passionate young man who loved writing songs and beautiful poetry for family and friends. Over the years, Dave participated in several bands, both original and cover. He loved performing and being on stage singing his songs. With his engaging personality, Dave never met a stranger. Dave is survived by his son and light of his life, Adam Ryan Garrett; Adam's mother Shelley Cheairs Garrett; father Alton and Mary Garrett; mother Gloria Garrett; maternal grandmother Maxine Purifoy; loving sisters Amy Garrett and Jean Young; nephew Scott and Liza Young, their son Caiden; niece Melanie Young
