"Roy Van fossen Loses His Life
Young farmer of Canton Township Crushed When Cement Tank Caved in. Was removing Forms when the structure collapased
Roy Van Fossen, a young farmer living east of Shellsburg was instantly killed, Monday morning when a cement supply tak, which he had built the week before on his place caved in and he was caught beneath the debris.
Mr. Van Fossen attempted to remove the forms from the cement tank, believing the material had dried sufficiently to allow this this to be done. He went down into the tank and as he removed the timbers the tank collapsed, and he was crushed to death. Assistance was summoned and the body removed as quickly as possible.
Mr. Van Fossen was a well known and respected young farmer of Canton Twonship. His tragic death came as a shock in his family and community. He was 27 years of age.
Services over the remains of Mr. Van Fossen were held this afternoon from the Methodist church in Shellsburg. Interment was in the Shellsburg cemetrey.
Roy Van Fossen was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Van Fossen. He was reared in Canton township and upon reaching man's estate engaged in farming in that locality. He is survived byu his wife, and little daughter the parents and two sisters.
