Elizabeth Speer Davis, 92, of Rochester, New York, and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday morning at The Friendly Home, Rochester, New York. Born in Wilkes-Barre, June 28, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Gomer R. and Ann (McMaster) Davis. She was a 1932 graduate of Wyoming Seminary, a 1936 graduate of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing and she also graduated from the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, anesthesiology, Phila.
She had served as a captain in the United States Army Nursing Corp. during WWII. She was employed as a registered nurse and anesthesiologist at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, and for 25 years at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township, from which she retired.
She was a member of the Puritan Congregational Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a Bible class teacher for 50 years. She was also past president and past secretary of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Nurses Alumni and was a member of the American Legion, Post 132.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce M. Davis and William R. Davis and by a sister, Ann (Nancy) Hess.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Pierce (Sarah) Day, Pittsford, New York; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Puritan Congregational Church, 71 South Sherman Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702. Arrangements are by the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 420 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston.
