Martha Ann Mayes Calk was the daughter of James Travis Mayes and Jane Elizabeth Culpepper. She married Oliver Calk on 16 Dec 1878 in Farmerville, Union, Louisiana. They raised their children in Louisiana. When her husband died, she moved to Silver Valley, Texas to live with her son's (T.W. Calk) family. They built a small cabin for her in the pasture about 300 yards from their own home where she lived peacefully. I'm assuming from the obit, that when she could no longer live alone, she lived in the house of her son's family, and it was there that she died, surrounded by her family. Her body was prepared for burial by J.E. Stevens Funeral Home, and then shipped by train back to where her husband was buried.
