Jean R. Dawes, 90, of Camden, New York, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at St. Luke’s Home, Utica, New York, where she had been a resident since June 2014. She was born on March 19, 1927, in Guilford, New York, a daughter of Otto & Bertha Hendrick Westcott. Jean was previously married to Richard Preston on February 15, 1945 in Earlville, New York, he passed away on May 25, 1982. She then married John Dawes on May 23, 1987 in Camden, New York, he passed away March 13, 1988. Jean was a Home Health Aide for many years and member of various local churches. She was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Jean is survived by three daughters, Amber Preston, Hopkinton, RI, Alison Hillenbrand, Oneida, NY, and Anita Birmingham, Kennedy, NY, seven sons, Ramon & Debra Preston, Rand Preston, Reed & Gail Preston, all of Camden, NY, Robin & Mary Preston, West Kingston, RI, Royal & Fay Preston, Orlando, FL, Randal & Kathy Preston, Westdale, NY, and Ross Preston, Harrisville, RI, several grandchildren, many great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter, Aileen Blair, two sons, Ralph Preston and Rick Preston, two daughter in laws, Charlene Preston and Alfreda Preston, and one son in law, Ron Blair.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 11 Main Street, Camden, New York. Burial to follow at Maple Flats Cemetery, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc. 109 Main Street, Camden, New York. Contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to the Camden Seventh Day Adventist Church or a charity of one’s choice.
