Chimist and Politician. He studied medicine before learning chemistery in Paris. He was deeply interested in the connection between chemistery and industry. Thererefore, he created a plant for chemical products, quickly well-known. King Louis XVI named him 'Comte'. One of his famous realization is the 'chaptalisation' which transforms sugar in alcool. He managed also the plant producing powders for guns. In 1801 he is named 'Ministre de l'Intérieur' by Napoleon Bonaparte. Immediately he re-organised schools, museums and created an hospital dedicated to pregnant women and births. When Napoleon became Emperor, he resigned from political life to work on his chemical researches. He died in 1852 with few money because of the debts of his son.
