Steven Ray Helm was born August 17, 1965 in Modesto, California. Steve was one of three sons born to the late John Henry and Thelma Marie (Lane) Helm.

He departed this life the afternoon of Sunday, September 28, 2008 in St. John's Regional Medical Center, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 43 year, 1 month and 11 days.

Steve grew up and attended school in Richland and obtained his GED. Steve accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized by Rev. Gary Humphrey and is a member of the Idumea Baptist Church of Laquey, MO.

On September 15, 1990 in Laquey, Missouri, Steve was united in marriage with Regenia Irene Gibson. In 1995 they were blessed with a son, Randall, and another blessing in 2001, a daughter, Sara.

Steve enjoyed being a firefighter for the Hazelgreen Fire Department where he also served on the board of directors. Since December, 1989, he has been a commissioned officer with the Laclede County Sheriff's Department. He loved his law enforcement work, and traveling to different locations for classes and training. At the present time, he was a dispatcher for the Laclede County 9-1-1 Emergency Services Department.

Steve was an avid baseball fan, and had amassed quite a card collection throughout his life. He truly enjoyed following his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Steve also had quite a collection of Police Department, Sheriff Department and Fire Department patches. He was a member of the Deputy Sheriff Association.

Steve was a loving husband and father. He will be very greatly missed by his wife, Regenia and two children: Randall and Sara Helm; two brothers: Rick Helm and his wife Tina of Waynesville, MO and Larry Helm of Richland, MO; father-in-law: Gene Gibson of Laquey, MO; two nieces: Lori Helm of Lebanon, MO and Kellie Helm of Grain Valley, MO; Regenia's grandmother: Thelma Humphrey of Waynesville, MO; several aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother-in-law.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bruce Doublin and Rev. Gary Humphrey officiating. Pianist Richard Bushey accompanied Soloist Lori Jo Bushey as she sang "Angels We Have Heard on High", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Serving as escorts were Steve Davis, Scott Mertens, George Arnold, Mark Gregory, Bryan Arnold and Tommy Gale. Serving as honorary escorts were Ralph Robinson, Eddie Sapp, Richard Wrinkle and Randall Helm.

Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland, Missouri with the Hazelgreen Fire Protection District providing honors, final call and presented a flag to Steve's wife, Regenia for his faithful service. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Steven Helm to the Scholarship Fund for Randall and Sara Helm and may be left at Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
