He had been in failing health for the last five years and suffered several strokes during the last two years. He was a patient at the hospital from December 29 to January 3.
He was born at Mont Alto, son of Zachariah and Evangeline Cline Patterson, and came to Waynesboro from Mont Alto 38 years ago. For a number of years he was employed by the borough and later as a mason's helper.
His son, George A. Patterson, died December 31, 1955. His wife, Emma M. Patterson, died 15 years ago.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Agnes Driscoll, New York City; Mrs. Catherine Miller of Hagerstown, Route 2; Miss Mary Patterson, Mrs. Betty Calimer, both of Waynesboro Route 4; Gerald and James Patterson of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and a brother William H. Patterson of Waynesboro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Calvary Tabernacle in charge of Rev. Henry Burkett. Burial will be made in Rose Hill cemetery, Mont Alto.
Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 at the Grove Funeral Home and at the church Wednesday from 1 o'clock until the hour of service.
