Rev David E. Bothwell born in Monaghan, Ireland in 1756 and died in Washington County, Georgia June 30, 1801. He and his wife Jane Wright Bothwell landed in Charleston, S.C. 25th of Dec. 1789. The Presbyters of Monaghan sent him to serve the churches of Jefferson & Burke Counties.
His congregation was large and embraced a large scope. Here he labored for many years, and died at the residence of General Jared Irwin, in Washington County, and was buried there in the family burial ground in June, 1901, aged forty-five. He was remembered as a many of medium size, rather stout, and was a clear, forceful speaker.
