Norma was born in Ogden, UT in 1925 to Seaver and Clara Bunnell Johnson and grew up on ranches in central and northern NV. In 1948 she became a registered nurse after attending nursing school in San Francisco. She loved the City and despite the "lights out" rule of nursing school frequently snuck out with her pals for a night on the town. They would often end up at a restaurant in the late hours of the night where she met her future husband Steve.
Norma was boarding a plane for Saudi Arabia to work as a nurse when Steve proposed. They were married in Reno at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in 1950. After living in San Francisco, they moved to Reno Sparks in 1953 and Norma worked for many years at St. Mary's Hospital. Steve and Norma traveled extensively with friends and moved to Verdi in 1980.
Norma was extremely generous and her great sense of humor was loved by friends of all ages. She was a whiz at crossword puzzles, knitting, stained glass work and hosting family and friends for impromptu dinners.
Norma is survived by her four children, Christine, Steve, Adrian and Carrie, as well as three grandchildren, Jeremy, Sarah and Joshua. She will be missed by her family and by the numerous friends and neighbors who loved her.
A celebration of her life will be held at Crystal Peak Cemetery in Verdi on Wednesday, September 24, at 11:30 am, followed by a reception at her home in Verdi.
