William Allen Crum was a son of Eli Crum (1806-1860) and Rachel Ayers (1811-1858) . He married Mary Malvenia Smith in 1855 in Tennessee. He and his wife were long time members of the Christian Church. William was a leader in the Restoration Movement and a minister for over 25 years. He was involved in political affairs in his community and was considered an upstanding individual by those who knew him. He enlisted in Company G, 17th Mississippi Infantry under the command of W.S.Featherstone of Holly Springs. In 1861 he fought in the Battle of Bull Run.
