Born to the union of Samuel Smythe and Adeline Matilda McLaren.
Sarah was the wife of Edwin V. Abbott and the mother of Harold and Emily Abbott who were later adopted by Fred Smythe (Sarah's brother)and his wife Cora of Pierce County, Washington.
Sarah lived in Mason County, Washington prior to moving to Arizona due to poor health (tuberculosis). Her husband,
Edwin, died before Sarah from drowning when the fishing boat he was working on sank in Washington State.
Sarah was a granddaughter of Robert J McLaren.
