Their target was Nordlingen and it was a single ship mission to test the SHORAN (SHOrt RAnge Navigation) system in its early days. The cause of the crash is unknown. There was a crew of 4, all were killed in action. Captain Brown, 1st Lieutenant Armstrong, and Flight Officer Haverly are buried in a joint grave at Rock Island National Cemetery, York is buried in Lorraine, France ABMC.
