John Bunyan Cook was the son of Ephraim Cook and Malinda Keen Cook. He married 1.Tempie Jane Wallace and 2. Mary A. Skelton in 1865 in Henry Co., GA. John and Mary had two children together. John Bunyan Cook was the oldest son of a large family. John enlisted in the volunteer infantry in August of 1861. He was in Company K of the 22nd Regiment of the Army of the Confederate States, made up mostly volunteers from Clayton and Henry County. He participated in many engagements, including the siege of Yorktown, The Seven Days Battles, Antietam, and Gettysburg. John was wounded at Gettysburg on the second day of the 3 day battle of July 1-3, 1863. He was hospitalized in Pennsylvania as a prisoner of war. He was exchanged back to the Confederate forces and was wounded again and captured at Amelia Court House, Virginia on April 5, 1865. John was released at Point Lookout, Maryland on June 24, 1865.
