"Miss Susie," as she was known, daughter of William M. and Mary Elizabeth Branton Taylor. She was born in Bastrop but spent most all of her life in Elgin and for many years was employed as an operator in the local phone office, which was then located on south side, over the present Schroeder Grocery.

Following her Retirement from Active duties, Miss Susie devoted herself to her home, her church and those about her in need of a helping hand or an encouraging word. She was a Charter Member of the Elgin Church of Christ.

Miss Susie never married and was the last member of her family. Following a stroke several months, prior to her death, a niece, and her daughter and Mrs. Tom Mundine , nurse, gave her every possible care. She passed at 2:40 PM July 7, 1951.
