Charles L. Szymanski
Age 86 of Millsboro, DE passed away on his birthday, January 8, 2004, at home. He was born in Wilmington to the late Louis A. and Lola Hanson Szymanski.
He was a retired employee of the DuPont Company Experimental Station in Wilmington and a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army. He was past state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past commander of the Polish-American VFW Post #3257 of Wilmington, and the poppy chairman for the VFW for many years.
He was a member, judge advocate and historian for American Legion Post #28 of Oak Orchard/Riverdale in Millsboro and a member of the Military Order of Cooties. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Olive, who passed away in 2002. Survivors include his son, C. Michael; daughter, Patricia S. Alley; 2 brothers, Leon and Edward; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Rocheleau and Catherine Cotton.
His 3 grandchildren, Richard, Shannon and Wendi Mulhern; and 2 great grandchildren, Alisha Mulhern and Aughtum Slavin also survive. Family and friends may call from 2-4 pm on Tuesday, January 13, in the chapel of MELSON FUNERAL SERVICES, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 14, at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy. & Duncan Rd., where family and friends may call after 10:30. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808. [published 01/11/2004]
