Intercept Officer.

Richard enlisted in the Marines 29 August 1946
at a Pittsburg Recruiting Office right after his
18th birthday.
His last state side duty was at Beaufort,SC
prior to Vietnam.Upon arriving in Vietnam 11
August 1967 Captain Kerr was assigned to
VMFA-3,MAG-13,1st Marine Air Wing.During
the month of January Chu Lai Airfield Base
was constantly under hostile 122 MM rocket
fire.At approximately 0400H the base was hit
by 48 122 MM rocket fire.Captain Kerr was in
a bunker that had a direct hit and he was
med-evac to the USNH Ship USS Sanctuary
where he died as a result of severe closed
head injury from the hostile rocket attack on
the base.
Captain Kerr served his country for 20 years.
Survived by his wife,Rita M Kerr,2 daughters;
Sandra M and Pamela J and a son;Keith A Kerr
all of 1005 Oak St,Burton,SC and his father;
Walter R Kerr of 2034 Jacob St,Pittsburg,PA.

His mother;Lillian Kerr was deceased.
