Anchorage resident ALBERT F. ''AHKELENA'' TIULANA, 56, died at home May 3, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Holy Family Cathedral, preceded by a Rosary. The Mass was officiated by the Rev. Thomas Gallagher. Burial followed at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Thomas, Tiulana, Jerome Tiulana, Edward Tiulana, Anthony Pushruk, Frank Pushruk and Joachim Koyuk. A potluck was held at the Holy Family Cathedral after burial. Participants were asked to bring a dish to share.
Mr. Tiulana was born Oct. 21, 1945, on King Island, to Charles and Johanna Pullock. His mother died when he was 3 years old, and his aunt Clara and her husband, Paul Tiulana, adopted him. His family moved permanently to Nome about 1955. There he attended Nome Public Schools and completed 11th grade. Albert made a living by ivory carving. He moved to Anchorage in 1967. His family said: ''Albert was a quiet person. We knew he loved us all even though he didn't show it. His favorite foods growing up were mussak and bread. We all loved him very dearly.'' He was preceded in death by his biological parents, Charles and Johanna Pullock; adoptive parents, Paul and Clare Tiulana; and brothers, Michael Pullock and Christopher Koezuna.
He is survived by his brothers, John I. Pullock and Matthew Tiulana of Nome, Theodore Pullock of Brevig Mission, Justin, Eugene and Thomas Tiulana, all of Anchorage; sisters, Lillian and Catherine Tiulana of Anchorage; aunts, Helen Pushruk of Palmer, and Agatha Dahl of Anchorage; and many cousins and relatives. Arrangements are being handled by Anchorage Funeral Home.
