Jay Lawrence Johnson (52 yrs) was the oldest sibling (Jay, Heidi, Paul) born to Dale Ladsworth Johnson and Carmen Acosta . He was born on Mar. 2, 1953 in Lawrence, KS and died on October 8, 2005 in San Diego, CA.

His maternal grandparents were Emilo and Saima Acosta and his paternal grandparents were Mildred Louise Christensen and Rudolph Kenneth Johnson.
A bright, charismatic leader type personality, Jay graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX where he played French Horn and was senior class vice president. Jay was diagnosed with extremely serious and debilitating schizophrenia during his first semester at Harvard University.
Jay's parents worked to improve his condition and in 1980 began a mutual support and advocacy group in Houston, TX to improve the quality of life for the mentally ill in Houston. Carmen was President of the Texas Alliance for the Mentally Ill and Dale is on the board of the World Fellowship for Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders (WFSAD) and was President in 2006.

His family placed a bench in memory of Jay at the far north end of the Vista Verde trail in the Orilla Verde National Recreation Area. The bench overlooks the wild and scenic Rio Grande river. It is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of the river and nature.
