Ray was a retired rancher and an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ray loved his family and the time he shared with them. He was a member of the American Legion Post #74, Wright City. Ray was instrumental in helping develop Beavers Bend State Park as a part of the C.C.C. Camp.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and his wife Alma Mitchell in 1998.
Ray is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Joan and Jerald Smith, Bogata, TX; one son and daughter-in-law, R.L. and Tena Mitchell, Herndon Community; one brother, Mack Mitchell, Herndon Community five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, August 22, 2008, at the Green Chapel Assembly of God, Herndon Community. Bro. Lyn Ed Gaskey will officiate. Interment will follow at Slater Memorial Cemetery, Wright City
