My Great Grandfather John Joseph Tague was born in Newarthill, Parish of Bothwell, Lanark, Scotland on July 3, 1859 to Thomas Tague(1825-1875) and Ann Savage Tague(1835-1897). John Tague's family had emigrated from Ireland to Scotland during the famine years about 1854. John was one of of 12 children, some died at birth and some at very young ages, only 5 living to adulthood; Mary, Thomas, John Joseph, Hugh, Patrick, Michael, Bridget, Owen and James.

At about the age 12 years he went to work as a coal miner after his father Thomas Tague died in a mining accident. It was the custom in those years for the company to give the oldest son the father's job as a settlement for the injuries or death. He also continued to attend school for a time at night.

John married Margaret Gilmartin (1861-1929) at Saint Margaret's Church in Airdrie, Scotland on June 14, 1885. They then settled in Airdrie after they were married.
John and Margaret had seven children; Thomas, Michael, Michael II, Mary, Anna, Hugh F. and John J.

Margaret Tague died in the USA while visiting her daughter, She is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Ridge Road, North Arlington, Hudson County, New Jersey.
