Sam passed away July 10, 2008, at home, with his wife of 14 years by his side, after years of suffering from a stroke, colon cancer and Parkinson's disease. He was 72. Sam was a long time resident of Sylmar before his illness and move to Phelan, California. He is survived by his wife, Carmen M. Hindsman, who cared for him at home for 12 years; his sons, Sam Hindsman Jr. (Mary) and Jeff Hindsman; grandson, Jesse James Hindsman; two stepbrothers, Tommy Hindsman and Danny Hindsman; three stepsisters, Lynn Hardin, Becky Kennedy and Ann Cornwill of Arkansas; three stepchildren, Linda Duranslet (Russell), Lisa Rohletter (Steven) and David Banales; seven step grandchildren, Russell, Melissa, Carmel, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jayson, Justin Rohletter; one great granddaughter, Hennena; and many other family members and friends. Sam was a character in every sense. He was born October 10, 1936 in Columbus, Mississippi. Growing up in San Fernando Valley and graduating from Verdugo High School in Sunland. He worked as a supervisor at Menasco for 35 years, and retired July 1, 1998. He loved his Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Jeff Gordon. He was the biggest Laker fan that ever lived.
