Charles Franklin Craig,59,of Route 3,died at 11;00 a.m. Saturday at Waynesboro Community Hospital.
He was born in Albemarle County on April 6, 1918, a son of the late Jacob Franklin and Annie Alice Craig.Mr.Craig was a retired carpenter and a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
He was the past Sunday school superintendent of Glen Kirk Chapel.He was commander of the Disabled American Veterans,Chapter 30 of Wyanesboro.
He was also a past scoutmaster and a Navy veteran of World War II.Prior to his navy duty,he served with the U.S Army from 1936-1938.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.Irene Fisher Craig,four brothers,James Edward Craig and Jacob F. Craig,both of Waynesboro,George W.Craig of Tye River and Guy M. Craig of Hampton;five sisters,Mrs.Cynthia Burckhead of Charlottesville,Mrs.Margaret McDilda of Buchanan,Mrs.Ollie M.Frey of Chesapeake,Mrs.Ethel Phelps of Norfolk and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ring of Virginia Beach; and a number and nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Etter Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. J.Whitner Kennedy and the Rev F.Charles Smith.Burial will be in the Glen Kirk Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Sprouse,William C.Crickenberger,Riley Fisher,Billy K.Fisher,Jerry Fisher,David Fisher,T.R.Craig,Dwight McDilda and Jack Craig.
The Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the Etter Funeral Home.
The Family request that memorial tributes take the form of donations to the Glen Kirk Chapel Building Fund.
