JR Sr was district court attorney for years then he was elected to the position of District Court Judge for the State of Texas. He retired when he started having health problems including going blind towards the end of his life.

James did not have a son named Roy. This is most likely referring to Ray. His sons were James Robert JR., Norris, Gordon, Ray, Truett, Truman and Eugene.
James Black was my great uncle.
