John Wesley Priest Sr. married Sarah Catherine Thomas November 11, 1859. John and Sarah had 10 children, 8 of which lived to be adults.

John Wesley Priest, Sr. was a Private in Company E. Biffle's 19th Tennessee Calvary CSA. He was enlisted by Col. J, B, Biffle in May of 1862 and Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee for 3 years. John was wounded at Franklin, TN, shot through the right arm and leg at Thompson Station, TN. and wounded in the side and arm at Rome, GA. He suffered from these wounds until his death. He is buried in the Woodmen Cemetery in East Prairie, as per Phillip R. Priest.

After death of Sarah Catherine Thomas Priest in 1989, John married Mary Johnson in 1899.
