John was wounded at Franklin, TN, shot through the right arm and leg at Thompson Station, TN. and wounded in the side and arm at Rome, GA. He suffered from these wounds until his death. He is buried in the Woodmen Cemetery in East Prairie, as per Phillip R. Priest.
After death of Sarah Catherine Thomas Priest in 1989, John married Mary Johnson in 1899.
