After the War, James and Mary Ann took up residence near the Lynch family home in Clarendon, Michigan. In 1870, they moved their family of four children (George Richard Quick, William Quick, Nathaniel Lynch and James Lynch Jr.) from Michigan to Riley County, Kansas, arriving on Christmas Day. They settled on a homestead near Leonardville where two more children (Charles and Anna) were born. A daughter Martha Lynch was born in Michigan, but died before the family moved.
James and Mary Ann loved the Leonardville area, and raised all of their children in Riley County. James died in 1928 at the age of 83, in Leonardville, Kansas, and Mary Ann died in 1915 in Leonardville.
