Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 10, at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.
Albert Joseph Staes was born May 6, 1915, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Alois and Josephine (VanHoorebeke) Staes. He married Nellie Roberta Madeline Baker on July 3, 1937, in Davenport and were later divorced. He married Carolyn A. Blecker and were later divorced. He married Joan Wanelin in 1955, in Rock Island, Illinois. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He was awarded two Bronze stars. He was employed as a tool grinder at Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, until he retired in 1976 after 30 years of service. He then worked at Rock Island Bank parking lot from 1976 to 1986. He was a member of Disable American Veterans. He enjoyed bowling and was a softball pitcher for the Colman Florist teams.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; two daughters, Nancy (Charles) Phillips of Bethalto, IL, and Vicki Barton of Rock Island, IL; one son, Michael Staes of Oak Park, IL; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy (Gale) Stifter of Moline, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alphonse Staes.
