Inscription: Son of HW & E Price -- Died at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee -- Aged 22 years
"To his fellow soldiers, he calmly said
I triumph though I fall
My victory is by the blood stained cross
Fight on and conquer them all.
Though first I'm called to leave your ranks
My heart is with the brave
From Heavens portals I'll look down
And see your banners wave"

David S. Price was working as a farm hand on his father Henry W. Price's farm near Urbana when he enlisted at age 21 in the 13th Ohio Light Artillery in February 1862.
David was a private in Myers's Battery, as the 13th was known. Its first and only engagement during the Civil War was the first day of the battle of Shiloh. Myers's Battery was positioned near the Peach Orchard and Bloody Pond on the crest of a hill. Very early on April 6, 1862 an exploding Confederate shell struck one of the battery's caissons which "shivered it to pieces", killing young David Price. While eight of his comrades were wounded by this shell, David was the only one killed in action.
He was survived at home by his brothers Joel T. and Jacob S. who later joined the 134th Ohio, and his youngest brother Leonidas, as well as his parents and sisters.

David was a Sergeant (although the official roster lists him as private, this was in error, even Capt Myers lists him as Sgt Price), He was in charge of Gun #2, At the battle his shoulder was blown off by a cannonball and he was thrown off of his horse. He was the only member of the 13th Ohio Battery to die at the battle of Pittsburg Landing "Shiloh". Corp Emanuel Whitaker (Gun) & Corp. Lorenzo D Ennis (Caisson) were his two Corporals. (This info is per over 110 pension files i have of the 13th Ohio Battery and newspaper articles from Feb 1862 - May 1862)
