Chester Pietka
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 10 at United Lutheran Church in Eugene for Chester Pietka of Eugene, who died July 27 of liver cancer. He was 88. Inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Portland to Frank and Alice Turowski Pietka. He married Betty M. Morland on March 23, 1946, in Portland.
He attended Portland public schools and earned a bachelor's degree in music at the University of Oregon. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a tank commander during World War II. He received the Purple Heart. He owned Pietka Music Studio for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David of Portland, Gary of North Plains, and Charles of Mercer Island, Wash.; a daughter, Alice Ochse of Dundee; two sisters Genevieve Knight and Bernice Nugent, both of Portland; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene. Remembrances to the Northwest Accordion Society's Chester Pietka Scholarship Fund or the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp for special needs individuals.
