James W. (Jim) Patterson, 79, a resident of Rose Manor, Waynesboro, died at 7:56 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Waynesboro Hospital. He was in failing health for the past several years and critically ill since Sept. 10.
Born May 15, 1923, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George W. and Emma May (Patterson) Patterson. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
He received his GED from the Waynesboro Area School District.
Mr. Patterson served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He and his wife of more than 48 years, Deloris L. (Halterman) Patterson, were married June 28, 1954, in Hagerstown. They entered Rose Manor in May 2002.
Prior to retiring on disability on April 6, 1979, Mr. Patterson was a sandblaster for Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fairview Ward, Waynesboro. Mr. Patterson was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro. He was a life member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro, and Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed ceramics, cooking and baking pies.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Patterson is survived by one sister, Betty Calimer of Waynesboro; a number of nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Trudy Halterman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Driscoll, Catherine Miller and Mary Daley; and two brothers, George Patterson and Gerald Patterson.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11887 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, with Bishop Douglas M. Parks officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Thursday in the primary room of the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11887 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268. Arrangements were made by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
