Bruce Adler was a comic actor who was a veteran to the Yiddish theater and went on to a successful Broadway stage career. He was the son of actors Julius Adler and Henrietta Jacobsen. His maternal grandparents, Joseph and Bessie Jacobson who were also actors as were two uncles. He began performing at the age of three, and danced and sang on stage with Molly Picon when he was a teenager. He made his Broadway debut playing Ali Hakim in the 1979 revival of Oklahoma! and had appearances in Oh, Brother!, Broadway, and Sunday in the Park with George. He found great success in the 1990s, netting two Tony Award nominations for Those Were the Days in 1990 and Crazy for You in 1992. Adler lent his voice to Disney in the animated movies Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. His TV credits included Funny Already: A History of Jewish Comedy, Law & Order, and Great Performances: Crazy for You. He also performed extensively in regional theatre. He played in Cole Porter's Red, Hot and Blue in 2001. Other roles include Tevye in Fiddler On The Roof, Fagin in Oliver!, Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl, Hysterium in A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum, and Sammy Cahn in Come Fly With Me. He also toured in his own one-man evening Song and Dance Man in which he celebrated all of his performing heroes. He died after a long battle with liver cancer at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife, Amy London and their one-year-old son Jacob along with his stepchildren, Emily and A.J.
