Ivan I. Taylor 89, passed away on June 4, 2008 at his home in Mackay, Idaho. He was born August 2, 1918 at White Knob, Idaho. He was the son of Hannial and Nina Taylor. He entered the CCC at the age of 16 and served one year. Ivan entered the military in May 1942. He was honorably discharged in October 1945 as a Master Sergeant and was awarded the Soldier's Medal, Bronze Start, Good Conduct Medal, and 4 campaign stars. He was called back to duty in 1950 for the Korean War.
Ivan invested much of his life serving others as county commissioner, Mayor, many other civic groups, and most recently the Lost Rivers Medical Ceneter Foundation. He was also a dedicated member of the Order of Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners.
Mining was Ivan's passion and he spent most of his life as a hard rock miner.
Ivan was married to Martha Bell Leggett on December 24, 1946. They had two children, Kathryn Nina Taylor and Stephen Martin Taylor. Martha passed away and in 1991 Ivan married Myrna Jean Roberts.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen, wife Martha, 5 brothers and sister.
He is survived by his wife Myrna, daughter Kathryn (Bob) Burroughs, a sister Roberta Skelton, of Elko Nevada , step-children Dawn (Gary) Jensen, Shawn (Mary) Roberts, Chanelle (Dave) Foltz, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday June 7 at the Mackay Masonic Temple at 11:00 AM, conducted by Wiley Smith. Services are under the direction of Bingham-Marvel Memorial Chapel 153 Lost River Ave. Arco
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lost Rivers Medical Center Foundation. P.O. Box 328, Mackay Id, 83251.
