On Friday, the 25th of July Connie Elizabeth White Banks passed peacefully into her Lord's welcoming arms after 79 years of faithful service. She was at her home surrounded by family and friends. Connie was born in Norfolk County, Virginia and was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Banks Jr.; her daughter, Velorcia; her parents, Alonzo and Corine White and Mollie Owens; and her sister, Martha Brothers. Mrs. Banks was a 30-year retired school teacher with the Norfolk public school system. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk where she served in the Missionary Society, the Sunday School Ministry and the church choir. She was a retired member of the Voices of Norfolk Concert Choir, served as past Worthy Matron for the Margaret Francis No. 101 Order of Calanthe Eastern Stars, the National Council of Senior Citizens, the Berkley and Huntersville Senior Citizens' Civic Leagues and former secretary of the Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1956. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Gregory Banks (Goldie), Valerie Banks Gilbert (Harold), Godfrey Banks (Lydia), Gordon Banks and Dr. Gerald Banks; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Delores "Mickey" Holley and Pastor Janie Jernigan; her "neighborhood sons," Granger, Donnell, K.P. and LoKey, her church family and a host of friends and relatives. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2153 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach with Bishop W.D. Scott Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Hampton National Cemetery. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home is in charge. The remains will be ready for viewing from 3:30 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at 1148 Fairway Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320. www.carlosahowardfuneralhomes.com.
