James P. Abell, a well-known resident of Merced county, died suddenly at his home at Livingston last Tuesday morning from heart trouble. The deceased was a native of Pennsylvania, aged 73 years, 2 months and 7 days. He came to California in 1891, and after a residence of five years in Bakersfield came to Merced and engaged in the lumber business. Eight years ago he moved to Livingston and engaged in fruit raising and for a time was manager of the Livingston branch of the Merced Lumber Company. He was an upright and honorable man, and many friends will regret his passing. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Nancy Abell, and three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Landram of Merced, Mrs. Ella Taylor of Fortville, Indiana and Mrs. Clara Keesling of Castleton, Indiana. He also leaves a brother, P. E. Abell, of Merced. The funeral will be held in this city Sunday upon arrival of his daughters from Indiana.

James P. Abel was born on 8 Jul 1841 in Pennsylvania and died from an internal hemorrhage due to arterio sclerosis on 15 Sep 1914 in Livingston, Merced County. He was married and a farmer. He was the son of Emmaline Murch, born in KY, and Harmon Abell, born in IL. His length of residence at his place of death was 9 yrs and 10 mos, and resided in California for 23 yrs and 7 mos. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery, Merced, on 20 Sep 1914. The informant was F. H. Landram, Merced. [California Death Certificate, Merced Co., Bk 3, Pg 49]
