Samuel Wolston Meeks was born 30 Nov 1805 in Virginia, to Thomas Meeks (born about 1768 in possibly Scotland) and Susannah George (born 1777 Virginia). Samuel married Sarah Bartlett (1809-1885) on 16 Nov 1826 in Harrison County, West Virginia. She was born in Virginia and was the dau of Thomas and Malinda Bartlett.

Samuel and Sarah Meeks left National Bridge, Virginia around 1834 and moved to Ohio with 6 of their children, and settled in areas of Allen County and Champaign County by 1838. In 1838, Samuel homesteaded land in Perry, Allen Co. Ohio, where Samuel engaged in farming, upon a tract of land from the Government. There were at least 13 children born to Samuel and Sarah: Malinda, Amos, Susannah, Elizabeth, Nancy, Martha Ann, Edith, Thomas, Wesley, Sarah, Samuel, William, and Mary. Samuel and Sarah Meeks remained on their farm in Allen County, where he died in 1873, and she died in 1885.
