Prentice William Shaw, 96, of Nevis and Clinton, IA died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

He was born Dec. 29, 1911 at Plover, IA, the son of George and Alma (Stewart) Shaw. He grew up and attended school at Plover. He attended Morningside College and then Iowa State University at Ames where he received his degree in chemistry. He went on to attend the Drake Law School where he received his law degree.

He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a judge advocate during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He practiced law in Clinton at the Holleran, Shaw, Murphy and Stoutner Law Firm and retired in the early 1980s.

On July 4, 1958, he married Phyllis J. Madden/ Macke in Clinton.

He is survived by four children, Prentice "Tim" G. (Danielle) of Chicago, Charles P. (Mary) of Clinton, Dennis J. (Barbara) of Plymouth and Carolyn of Sacramento; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife and two sisters, Dorothy and Edie.

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27 at Cease Family Funeral Home in Nevis and from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton, IA.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 31 at the Pape Funeral Home.

Casket bearers: Robert, Prentice and Charlie Shaw, Jason Stewart, Sean Weller and Robert Huges.

Interment: Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
