Mary Jane Flemming, age 89 of Oshkosh, passed away early Thursday, July 17, 2008 in Aurora Medical Center. On September 29, 1918 she was born in Oshkosh, the daughter of Walter and Jenny (Ryan) Smith. A 1937 graduate of Oshkosh High School, Mary graduated from the Oshkosh State Teachers College in 1941. She taught the 5th and 6th grades in Weyauwega and Tomahawk. On April 22, 1944 she married Edwin Flemming in St. Peter's Catholic Church. He passed away on December 21, 2000. Mary was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and especially had fond memories of the trip she and Edwin took to Ireland.
Her memory will be cherished by her two sons: Thomas E. (Carolyn) Flemming and Robert J. (Susan) Flemming both of Neenah; her grandchildren: Thomas (significant other: Janet Hennick) Flemming, Jr., of Oshkosh, Michael (Lourdes) Flemming in Ponte Vedra, FL; Eileen (Chris) Harwood of Roanoke, VA; and Audrey (fiance' Brad Melhus) Flemming of Gainesville, FL; her two great-grandsons: Hayden and Christopher of Ponte Vedra, FL; her sisters-in-law: Ruth Smith of Oshkosh, Grace Kettermen of Conover, WI, Laura Flemming of Roscoe, IL and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Walter, Richard and Robert.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish (St. Mary's site) 442 Monroe Street, with Rev. Fr. Joel Sember as celebrant. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2008 in Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 130 Church Ave., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also greet the family from 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday in the church.
"Dear Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma: Thank you for all the memories. We will treasure them always. You hold a special place in all of our hearts. We will miss you! Love, Your Family"
The family wants to extend a special thank you to the Aurora Medical Center, its Hospice and clinic staff. They would also like to thank her neighbors and friends for all their help and support throughout the years.
