Sarah Elizabeth Follon was one of ten children born to William S. Follon (1814-1885) and Candace Howe (1816-1871). She was born in Genoa, Delaware County, Ohio on 23 Oct 1846. The Follon family also resided in Franklin Co. Ohio and moved to Wisconsin in 1852, after William's father died. Several of Sarah's siblings were born there.
By 1860, William Follon moved his family, with other Follon's, to Clayton Co. Iowa, where he enlisted in the Civil War. Some of the Follon's relocated to Smith Co. Kansas, after the Civil War, and took up a homestead.
Sarah met Samuel Nelson Allen of Smith County, Kansas, and they married in 1875. They had at least seven children born to them: Albert, born in KS; Cora, born in KS; Jessie, born in KS; Frederick, born in MO; Thomas, born in MO; Loretta, born in MO; and a daughter, name unknown. The Allen family left Kansas around 1881 and went to Sheldon, Vernon County, Missouri. Sarah returned to Kansas after Samuel died in Sheldon in 1886.
