Lena Caroline "Carry" Blick was born in Bloomington, Illinois in 1876. She was one of ten children born to Constant
and Minnie (Blaakman) Blick. The family immigrated two years earlier from their native land of Hoofdplaat, Zeeland, Netherlands, where the family name was "de Blieck".

The Blick family moved from Illinois to Colorado in 1890, where they engaged in farming. Lena met Charley William Franklin (1878-1959) and they married in 1897. Charley was the son of Samuel B. Franklin (1854-1909) and Sarrah Spangler (1855-1893) who went from Indiana to Kansas, before settling in the Fort Morgan area of Colorado.

In Fort Morgan, Colorado, Charley and Lena owned a dairy farm. Charley was also a well driller, and drilled wells for water in the Fort Morgan area. In 1907, the family followed the Blick family to Washington State to work in the timber industry. By 1921, they moved to Buhl, Idaho and took up farming. The four children of Lena and Charley are: Minnie, b1902; Dorothy, b1905; Ralph, b1907; and Harry, b1913. Lena died after a severe illness in 1930.
