Born Aug. 5, 1922, in South Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Grant A. and Mary C. (Null) Martin.
She and her husband,Claude J. Byers, Sr. were married June 12, 1943, and moved to the present residence in 1950. He died June 7, 1985.
Mrs. Byers was employed as a practical nurse at the Samuel G. Dixon State Hospital, now South Mountain Restoration Center, for several years, then at the Quincy United Methodist Home for a number of years. She also worked as a private duty nurse.
She was a member of the Glen Furney Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are five daughters, Gloria E. Carbaugh and Linda P. Byers, both of Waynesboro, Jean L. Umbel of Taneytown, Md. Dorine M. Spangler of Hagerstown and Barbara A. Rexrode of South Mountain, two sons, Claude J. Byers Jr. of Hagerstown and Ronald E. Byers of Waynesboro; 14 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Annie Stouffer of Waynesboro, Zella Miller of South Mountain and Marie Whisner of Hagerstown, and five brothers, Carl Martin of South Mountain, Ray Martin of Fayetteville, Harold Martin and Charles Martin, both of Pond Bank, and Grant Martin of Waynesboro.
She was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Grove Funeral Home. with the Rev. Ralph C. Wise officiating. Burial will be in the Burns Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
