Ian was taken from this life when he was ten years old. He was walking across a street in Roseville, in a crosswalk, with a friend, when a man ran a red light and hit him

He is remembered as a one-of-a-kind individual with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He liked to do imitations of a variety of people and characters. He enjoyed competing in bicycle motocross, swimming on the Sugar Bear summer swim team, skiing downhill with his family, speed skating, and gymnastics. He loved watching NBA basketball. Michael Jordan was his hero. Remember MC Hammer? Ian performed a rendition of him in the school talent show, which was very creative and entertaining.

At his hometown, Roseville bicycle motocross track, it was discovered one day, after Ian asked the track's owner if he could announce some of the races, that he had quite a talent for announcing. He combined his quick wit, knowledge of the individual riders, and his motocross experience to make listening to his announcing an enjoyable experience.

A memorial was placed at the Roseville Aquatics Center in Roseville, California in his honor.
