Graveside services for Thomas Maxwell Talkington, 88, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Tolbert officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.

Born on Aug. 23, 1917, to Roswell and Vinnie Rogers Talkington in Vinson, he died on Oct. 18, 2005, in a local health care facility. He married Winifred Brandsford on Sept. 10, 1955, in Ardmore. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2002.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rhonda Iris Talkington; sisters, Freda Peters and husband, Vernon, Myrtle Stucker and husband, Afton, Dovie Lee Wells and husband, Roy, Troy Marie Finuf; brother, Forrest Talkington; brother-in-law, Hal Minton and granddaughter, Bobbie Sue Johns.

He lived in Ardmore and Denton, Texas, for 55 years. Tom worked in the retail shoe business all his working life; working for Edison Brothers in Oklahoma City, Zee's Shoes in Ardmore until he opened his own store, T & L Shoes of Denton, Texas in 1962, operating it until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Ardmore.

Survivors include his son, James Talkington and wife, Linda, Oklahoma City; daughter, Caroline Hunt and husband of Tryon; grandchildren, Brian Talkington and wife, Lynetta, Amber Neaves and husband, Trent, Curtis Hunt and wife, Laura, Kevin Hunt and Tesha Rankin; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Zanie Newhouse and husband, George, Calif., Dallas Talkington and wife, Beverly, Nebraska; sister-in-laws, Sue Whittle, Ardmore, Loretta Talkington, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Lowell Bransford, Ardmore, Dwight Finuf, Utah; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
