Highly Respected citizen Dies While
Enroute to Attend Internment of Mrs. Leslie White

Thursday while funeral services were being held for Mrs.
L.B. White at Bogard Church. J.E. Crockett desiring to attend the internment at Mt Zion cemetery, which was near his home. Started walking to the cemetery. He suffered a sever heart attach while walking and fell headlong into a ditch. A man saw him fall and rushed to him, but he never spoke death being almost instantaneous. The body was taken to the Dickerson funeral apartment and prepared for burial, after which it
was conveyed to the family house southwest of the town. Where numerous friends gathered to pay tribute to the one whom they loved and respected. James Elliott Crockett, son of Harrison Bruce Crockett and Arnessa (Ely) Crockett, was born Oct 9th 1865 At Rose Hill, Lee County, Virginia And departed this life Thursday Morning Oct 8th 1931. He was aged 85 years, 11 months and 29 days. He resided in Virginia until 25 years Of age and then went to Texas where He lived until 1905. He moved his family To Missouri, settling on a farm in Carroll county, always following the Occupation of farmer. In the year 1892 he was united in Marriage with Miss Mertilla Jane Criger, who survives. To this union seven children were born, one of whom passed away at the age of 7. Those surviving are Minnie the wife of Earl Williams, of Bogard: Hattie the wife of Chas Nance, south of Bogard; Harrison D Crockett of Carrollton; Maud the wife of Roscoe Wagaman, south of Bogard; Chas H Crockett and James Edger Crockett of the home. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Three brother, via; William and Frank Crockett Of Rose Hill, Va., Moses Crockett of Sanger, Texas. And half brothers John, Roscoe, Chas Bryant and Hobson Crockett. Other relatives and a host of friends. Two sisters and a half sister, have preceded him in death. When a young man he united with The Southern Methodist Church in his native town and has since lived a faithful Christine life. He was a honest upstanding citizen, a kind and loving husband, a devoted father and good neighbor and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services in his memory were held Saturday at 11a.m. from Bogard M. E. Church conducted by Rev F.L. Bechrist, and assisted by Rev. W F Jones of Iberia, Mo. Internment was at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The pallbearers were Cater Hawkins, S.J. Hatton. J H Smith, William Burton, Lyman Newnham and Harley Wagaman. The song were “Asleep In Jesus”, “Going Down the Valley”, “It is Well” and were rendered by a mixed choir with Miss Ethel Rose at the piano. The floral offerings were Abundant and beautiful. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the community in their great loss.
