John was born February 11, 1886 in Calwood, Missouri, the son of Thomas Benton and Martha Ellen (Fisher) Williams. Grandson of Albert and Sitha (Dawson) Fisher, pioneers from Clark County, Kentucky who settled in Nine Mile Prairie and Calwood and Joseph and Rachel (Laremore) Williams, pioneers from North Carolina who settled in Morgan County, Missouri.
John was a minor in the claymines.
He was married to Rose Elby Gee and she preceeded him in death in 1960. His son also preceeded him in death.
He was the last of ten children, Cora Bell Williams Laremore, Dora Williams Thomas, Dolly Williams Lovelace Metzger, Clara Williams Brewer, Henrietta Williams Goodman, William Richard Williams, Vollie Williams, Charles Williams and Joseph Thomas Williams.
