Born March 18, 1924 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late James J. Lamkin and Thennie Shelton Lamkin. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Brown Abbott, Jr. The last survivor of her generation, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Tommie Lamkin and William Lamkin, five sisters, Mary Altice, Clara Walker, Madeline Payne, Evelyn Shelton and Frances Robertson. Mrs. Abbott was a member of Gretna Christian Church and was a retired employee of the Lane Co. She enjoyed bird watching and flowers.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Martha Abbott of Gretna; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 at Gretna Christian Church by Rev. Dwight Mays and Rev. Roy Parker. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive family and friends at the residence.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Gretna Christian Church, P.O. Box 644, Gretna, Va. 24557 or to a favorite charity.
