SMITHFIELD - Juanita Horne Carter, age 73, of Bowling Green Road, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Obici Hospital, Suffolk. She was a native of Isle of Wight County and retired as president of Barrett-Folk Corp, where she worked for 47 years. Mrs. Carter was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Smithfield Woman's Club and a retired member of the Isle of Wight Electoral Board, where she served for 12 years. Her father, Elton Horne Sr., and daughter, Anita C. Moore, precede Mrs. Carter in death. Survivors include husband, Eugene H. Carter; daughter, Laurie Ann Carter; mother, Mary G. Horne; son-in-law, Michael Moore of Chesapeake; two grandsons, Chad Moore and Carl Moore, both of Chesapeake; sister, Anna H. Sisti, and brother, Elton Horne Jr., both of Smithfield; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield, with the Rev. Donald R. Rhoton and the Rev. Jarvis Hearn officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation, 3805 Cutshaw Avenue, Suite 200, Richmond, VA 23230 or Leukemia Society of America, Virginia Chapter, in memory of her daughter, Anita C. Moore, 2101 Executive Drive, Box 21, Hampton, VA 23666. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
