Maryanne Flaherty Jacobs, 74, died Monday, Jan. 28, in Arlington Hospital. Mrs. Jacobs, a native of Brocton, Ill., was a retired elementary school teacher with Newport News schools. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a past member of American Kennel Club. Survivors include her husband, Harold R. Jacobs; three daughters, Lynn J. French of Napa, Calif., Luann J. Sherp of Arlington and Lisa J. Adams of Jacksonville, Fla; a sister, Patricia Thompson of Indiana; a brother, Bob Flaherty of Illinois; and six grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Colonial Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert F. Cofield Jr. Burial will be in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Smithfield Library Association, P.O. Box 463, Smithfield 23430.
